ABOUT THE SOUTH IMPROVEMENT ALLIANCE

The South Improvement Alliance (SIA) is the group of organisations that have been brought together by the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC).

On October the 28th, 2005, a three year alliance style contract was signed between ARTC and their partners, John Holland Rail, MVM Rail and O’Donnell Griffin (ODG).

The South Improvement Alliance also includes sub alliance partners Kellogg Brown and Root (KBR), and CW-DC who provide specialist design services to the prime alliance partners.

The organisational structure of the alliance companies can be viewed here.

Funding

ARTC negotiated and signed the lease of the New South Wales regional network in September, 2004.

As part of this agreement, $872 million was allocated for infrastructure improvement.

Additional funding has been allocated through the Commonwealth Government’s Auslink program, with a special one-off allocation made for the North Coast of NSW. Additional Federal funding for specific concrete resleepering works on the North South Corridor between Melbourne and Brisbane was also made available.

ARTC has undertaken extensive consultation with stakeholders to determine how the funds should be invested in the national railway asset. Decisions have been driven by market forces, and the strategy will benefit the wider community and environment by reducing the numbers of trucks using our roads between Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane
