DOUBLE TRACK PASSING LANES

Location:
Between Junee and Macarthur

Description of the project
The existing double track between Junee and Macarthur currently has uni-directional (one way only on one track) signalling on the up and down lines, making it impossible for a faster train to pass a slower train when travelling in the same direction. This project will create sections where both tracks have bi-directional signalling (two way on both tracks) and crossovers are provided such that faster trains can overtake slower trains travelling in the same direction. It will improve train operational flexibility in the area, thereby improving operational capacity and reliability within the overall corridor.

At this stage, it is planned that only the Harden to Wallendbeen section will be upgraded in the short term. Three more sections will be planned for upgrading in the medium term once the majority of the major works in the corridor are completed. The three medium term projects are at Goulburn, Moss Vale and Picton.
